Anatolian
Church Frescoes Caesarea (modern Kayseri in central Anatolia-Turkey) was the capital
of ancient Cappadocia. The Christian population of Caesarea was forced
to migrate to the west when the Turks began to invade the eastern
part of Anatolia in the beginning of the 7th century AD. The natural
structure of Cappadocia had offered great conveniences for the new
comers thus they carved homes and churches in the rocks.
St. Basil of Caesarea suggested the idea of training missioners
who would diffuse the Christian doctrines and a kind of religious
school was founded in the Goreme Valley. Many churches were built
by carving the soft blocks of rocks formed of volcanic lava. Magnificent
frescoes depicting mainly Jesus Christ and some well-known scenes
from the Holy Bible adorn the walls of those churches.
Now you
have the chance to adorn your own walls with the exact
replicas (reduced size) of the ancient masterpieces from
Cappodocia without destroying the originals.
No fresco reproduction is alike, shapes vary.
